$Game Design Contest!
Deadline: December 1, 1991
Send in your best creations soon, as
the deadline is approching fast. We are
sponsoring a game design contest, and the
winning entries will be featured in our
upcomming game, "Best of ZZT."
Prizes, in the form or royalty
payments, will be awarded for the three
best entries in three different
categories:
* Best Action Board
* Best Puzzle Board
* Best Small Game
Plus, a grand prize will be awarded
for the overall best submission.
All entries must be submitted by
December, 1991. After judging, winners
will be notified by mail and announced in
the newsletter. The winning boards will
then be assembled into Best of ZZT.
Please submit all entries on disk,
ready to load from ZZT. If your board(s)
contain puzzles, describe the solution.
Multiple submissions will be gladly
accepted. All entries become the property
of Potomac Computer Systems, and may be
included in Best of ZZT. Affiliates of
Potomac Computer Systems are not eligible.
No purchase is necessary.
$Prizes!
Winning game boards will be used in
the game "Best of ZZT", which will be
sold for $4 to $8 depending on quantity.
Contest winners will receive royalty
payments based on a percentage of net
sales of Best of ZZT.
Rates are as follows:
Grand prize (1).......10%
First prize (3)........5%
Second prize (3)........3%
Third prize (3)........2%
Honorable mention (?)........1%
Honorable mention will be awarded to
all non-prize winning entries that we
include in Best of ZZT.
$What to expect.
Don't expect to retire on your
winnings. The prize money will probably
not amount to much. If you win, you will
get to see your name in lights and you
can have the satisfaction of seeing your
work published.
$Categories.
Best Action Board: We are looking
for a single challenging board. A
scenario that keeps the player constantly
moving and reacting will win. The board
should be unique and difficult to master.
Best Puzzle Board: A single board
that offers some sort of visual puzzle.
The player should not be constantly under
pressure but instead be faced with a
challenging problem that requies a
detailed, logical solution.
Best Small Game: A complete game
that contains from 3 to 8 boards that are
interrelated in some way. The game should
include a variety of interesting elements,
revolving about a unique central theme.
Grand Prize: The overall best, most
creative and interesting submission. It
may be one board, several, or a complete
game. This is the most prestigious award,
and it requires a very good entry.
$Judging.
Entries will be judged by Tim Sweeney
and other staff members, based on the
stated criteria. We reserve the right to
accept or reject entries at our own
discretion; all judgement will be final.
$Suggestions.
* There are no strict guidelines for
the three categories, so be creative.
* While you will want to look at the
boards supplied with ZZT for ideas,
don't copy. We are looking for
innovations more than improvements.
* Get familiar with every aspect of
the game, especially the programming
language and the interactions between
objects. Find unique, interesting uses
for different objects.
* Be humorous, creative, and unique,
but most of all, have fun creating.
That's what ZZT is meant for.
$Submissions.
Submit all work on a 5.25" or 3.5"
disk. Include your name, address, phone
number, and a description of your entries.
Be sure that your entry is submitted
before the contest deadline. Send to:
